MOTOR VEHICLE | WATER TRUCK: Client and his son stopped on Highway 97, waiting to turn left. Commercial tanker hits them from the rear, shooting them into an oncoming truck. Client sustains major injuries that required multiple surgeries. Client’s son also sustains extensive injuries. Liability denied – no offer. Settled for $2,000,000 at mediation after extensive litigation.
MOTOR VEHICLE | HEAD-ON COLLISION: Client is on the job driving when another driver crosses into his lane, hitting him head-on. The client is taken by helicopter to the hospital. His injuries include several broken bones, requiring surgery. The case settles for $640,000 at mediation.
MOTOR VEHICLE | SEMI TRUCK: Semi truck driver is speeding and loses control around a corner, crashing into client head-on, and killing her. Settles for statutory wrongful death maximum of $500,000.
MOTOR VEHICLE | BICYCLE: Client riding his bicycle when an uninsured driver runs him down from behind at highway speed, causing client major injuries. Client is dropped by another law firm because they felt the case was unwinable. Liability denied, but offered $130,000. We take the case, win it, and the arbitrator awardes $464,000.
MOTOR VEHICLE | HEAD ON COLLISON: Client’s vehicle hit head-on by uninsured motorist. The client suffers herniated discs in his lumbar spine, requiring multiple surgeries. No settlement offers are made by insurance company despite numerous promises. Arbitrator awards over $400,000 after we litigate the case.
PREMISES | GYM EQUIPMENT: Client using a piece of equipment at a gym. The gym had previously removed a safety bar, and client falls off of the machine as a result. Client sustains a head injury. Liability denied – no offer. Settles for $400,000 shortly before trial, and after considerable litigation on behalf of our client.
MOTOR VEHICLE | COMMERCIAL TRUCK: Client is four years old, and is a passenger in her grandparent's car. Her grandfather attempts to cross an intersection when the defendant, driving a large truck, fails to stop, and t-bones the car at the child's door. The collision pins the child in the car, and as a result, she suffers head, rib and right arm fractures. The case is complicated by liability issues, as well as whether the brain symptoms are caused by the accident, or is a result of hereditary ADHD. Case settles at Judicial Settlement Conference for $395,500.
MOTOR VEHICLE | ROLLOVER: Client is a passenger in a single vehicle rollover accident, causing multiple pelvis fractures. No prior offer is made by the insurance company. A $345,000 settlement is obtained on behalf of our client.
AIRLINE | FALLING LUGGAGE: Client is a passenger on an airliner when a bag falls from an overhead bin on takeoff, hitting him on the head. Client sufferes neck and shoulder injuries, requiring surgery. Liability is denied – no offer. Settles for $325,000 at judicial settlement conference.
WORK | JOBSITE: Client unloading a large beam when homeowner suddenly grabs one end, slides it off the truck, and lets it drop to the ground. Client sustains injuries to his wrist and shoulder, requiring surgery. Liability is denied – no offer. Jury awards $314,000 at trial.
PREMISES | TRIPPING HAZARD: Client at an event at the fairgrounds. The caterers for the event run an extension cord across a walking path, and cover with a carpet, creating a mound in the carpet. No tape is used to secure the cord or carpet, the lights are turned down for the event, no warning is given of the hazard, and there are numerous elderly people in attendance. Elderly client trips on the mound in the carpet, falls, and breaks her hip. Complex liability and damages issues presented in the case. We sue the county, event organizer, and caterer, all of whom blame each other, as well as our client for falling. Extensive litigation and discovery is performed, and the case settles at mediation for $250,000.
MOTOR VEHICLE | BICYCLE: Client is riding his bicycle to work just before dawn. An uninsured driver approaches from behind, running him down. Client sustains orthopedic injuries, including several fractures, requiring surgery. Liability is denied – no offer. We litigate the case and the arbitrator awards $238,000.
PREMISES | PAINTBALL GUN: Client, a young boy, is negligently shot in the eye with a paintball gun, requiring multiple surgeries. Case settles for $235,000.
MOTOR VEHICLE | COMMERCIAL VAN: Client is wheelchair bound. When exiting a handicap van at the direction of the driver, her wheelchair flips forward, throwing her to the ground because the ramp was not level with the van. She fractures her leg and shoulder as a result of the fall. Liability is denied – no offer. We obtain a $230,000 settlement.
WORK | JOB SITE INJURY: Client using a port-o-potty on the job when another subcontractor runs into it, knocking it over. Among the client’s injuries are C4-C5 and C5-C6 disk protrusions, requiring a fusion. Settles for $195,000.
WORK | JOB SITE INJURY: Client is employed to scale logs at a mill. The log yard is paved and floor is covered with bark and ankle deep water. While scaling a stack of logs, client falls into a hidden manhole that has its cover missing. Client required knee surgery as a result of his injuries. A month before trial, case is resolved at mediation for $190,000.
MOTOR VEHICLE | DUMP TRUCK: Client is in stop-and-go traffic on Interstate 5, just south of Portland. A commercial dump truck fails to stop behind her, striking the rear of her vehicle, and forcing it into the van ahead. Client injures her neck, back, left shoulder, and left arm. She ultimately has neck surgery. The case settles for $165,000 at mediation.
WORK | FORKLIFT: Client is operating a forklift loading the back end of a semi when the truck pulls forward, causing him to fall to the ground. Client suffers neck injuries, requiring a cervical fusion. Liability is denied – no offer. Settles for $150,000 at mediation.
MOTOR VEHICLE | MOTORCYCLE: Client is riding his motorcycle when he is cut off by a car. Client slides under the car and is ran over. The client’s injuries include internal injuries and broken bones. Settles for $150,000 policy limits.
PREMESIS | FALLING PRODUCTS: A large object falls from a store shelf, striking client on the head. Object is inadequately supported by the shelf. Client requires neck surgery. Case settles at mediation for $147,500.
MOTOR VEHICLE | ROLLOVER: Client is a passenger in a single vehicle rollover accident, causing compression fractures in his back. No prior offer is ever made by the insurance company. We secure a $145,000 settlement.
MOTOR VEHICLE | HEAD ON COLLISION: Client is a driver of an empty log truck that is involved in a head-on collision when a pickup truck crosses the centerline on a curve. Client suffers a knee injury requiring surgery. Liability is denied – no offer. We obtain a $140,000 settlement at mediation.
MOTOR VEHICLE | SEMI TRUCK: Client is rear-ended by a semi truck in a construction zone. Head and back injuries result. The claim settles at mediation for $140,000.
MOTOR VEHICLE | COMMERICAL BUS: Client is rear-ended by city bus, requiring shoulder surgery and injuring his neck. We obtain a settlement at mediation for $132,500.
PREMISES | FALLING OBJECTS: Client is shopping in a store when an improperly secured decoration falls from the ceiling, striking client on the head and knocking her out. Client’s injuries include severe neck problems requiring surgery. We work the case up and it settles for $125,000.
MOTOR VEHICLE | MOTORCYCLE: Client is a passenger on a motorcycle who is thrown off due to the negligence of another motorist. Her injuries include multiple broken bones. The case settles for $125,000.
PREMISES | PARKING LOT DEFECT: Client falls because of a defect in a parking lot, fracturing her elbow, and requiring elbow replacement surgery. Liability is denied – no offer. We secure a $115,000 settlement at mediation.
MOTOR VEHICLE | ROLLOVER: Client is a semi truck driver who is run off the road by another vehicle, which causes his truck to roll. He suffers a partial rotator cuff tear and closed head injury. Liability is denied – no offer. $112,500 is obtained in settlement.
WORK | FALL AT JOBSITE: While cutting tree limbs, client is jerked out of tree, rupturing his spleen. After hiring us, policy limits of $101,000 are quickly obtained.
PREMISES | ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING: 16 year old client is target shooting in friend’s back yard. His friend accidently shoots client in his shoulder, requiring surgery. Liability is denied – no offer. We are hired, and the case settles for the $100,000 policy limit.
MOTOR VEHICLE | HEAD ON COLLISION: Client is a passenger in a vehicle whose driver crosses the centerline causing a head-on collision. Client has a fractured wrist requiring several surgeries. No prior offer is made by the driver's insurance company. Settles for $100,000 policy limit after our firm advocates on behalf of our client.
